Pavilion B includes 23 operating rooms, 36 PACU (recovery room) beds and 19 pre- and post-op rooms. It serves all specialties except for open heart surgery. For patients staying overnight, following your stay in the PACU area, you will be taken to the appropriate hospital inpatient unit.
Hours: 5:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, no weekends or holidays. However, the unit is available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week for emergency surgical care. Patients with scheduled surgeries are required to arrive two hours prior to their scheduled surgery time.
Your family will wait in the Surgery Waiting Room, located on the first floor of the hospital with convenient access to the cafeteria, chapel, gift shop, main lobby and elevators. Time seems to slow down when waiting for a surgery procedure. St. Vincent has tried to anticipate your needs by providing free coffee and a vending area. There are also lockers for temporary storage of patient belongings. Free local phone access and free Internet access are also provided for those who would like to work on a laptop computer while waiting.
Your family's spokesperson will receive a pager to carry during the surgery. This allows him to move about the hospital, but still be reachable for patient updates. A Surgical Services Liaison will provide the family with updates on the patient's condition and status of the surgery. The Liaison can also be reached via phone and through the Surgery Waiting Room reception desk to answer questions between updates.
