Your family may accompany you as far as the surgery waiting area. During your procedure, your family can wait in the Surgery Waiting Room, centrally located on the first floor of the hospital with convenient access to the cafeteria, chapel, gift shop, main lobby and elevators. A children's play area (parental supervision required) is also available nearby.
The surgery waiting room includes a vending area with free coffee, lockers for temporary storage of patient belongings, free local phone access and free access to the Internet for those who would like to work on a laptop computer while waiting.
The patient communications representative will provide your family's spokesperson with a local distance pager to carry during your surgery. This allows your family members to move about in the hospital but still be reachable for patient updates from the staff or your surgeon.
A surgical services liaison will routinely "round" through the operating rooms checking on the patient's condition and status of the surgical procedure. The liaison will then come out and provide your family with an update.
The liaison is also available via phone and through the Surgery Waiting Room reception desk staff to answer questions between rounds. |
