Joanne M. Hilden, M.D.
Dr. Hilden is the Vice President of Medical Affairs at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Executive Committee, setting direction for national protocols for childhood leukemia, and chairs the COG Infant Leukemia Task Protocol. She serves on COG Infant Brain Tumor committees as well, and founded and runs the International CNS Rhabdoid/Teratoid tumor registry. Dr. Hilden was elected in 2005 to the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO) Board of Trustees. Dr. Hilden currently serves on the ASPHO Professional Development committee, with a special interest in the development of junior faculty. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and has served on their Ethics Committee. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Hilden is also a national leader in Pediatric Palliative Medicine, and is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She founded the COG Subcommittee on Palliative Care in 1995. Dr. Hilden was recently appointed to the ACGME Advisory Committee on Palliative Medicine. She was appointed to the Institute of Medicine Committee on Care of Dying Children and their Families, which prepared the report on pediatric palliative care that was released in July 2002. In 2003 Dr. Hilden published a book entitled, “Shelter from the Storm ~ Caring for a Child with a Life-Threatening Condition,” and has co-authored a review article on Pediatric Palliative Medicine published in the New England Journal of Medicine. |
