Brian M. Pate, M.D. FAAP
Dr. Brian Pate completed undergraduate training at Creighton University in Omaha, NE and returned to his home state of Kansas to earn his MD at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospitals & Clinics in Kansas City, MO where his special interests were Critical Care, Cardiology and medical leadership. Following residency, Dr. Pate joined the then fledgling group of Hospitalists at Children’s Mercy as Director of Clinical Services, where he was responsible for quality improvement, clinical competence and clinical policy and procedure. After serving in this capacity for 3 years, he was promoted to his current position as Chief of the Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Children’s Mercy.
Dr. Pate is an assistant professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and a charter member of the Section on Hospital Care. He continues to be an active member of the Society of Hospital Medicine, currently serving on the Pediatric Committee. Dr. Pate is a graduate of the Intermountain Healthcare Advanced Training Program in Quality Improvement and a certified Medical Safety Officer.
Dr. Pate is currently the contributing editor on behalf of the AAP Section of Hospital Medicine for AAP’s “Grand Rounds” and has also served as an editor for the Journal of Hospital Medicine and Quality and Safety in HealthCare. Dr. Pate has enjoyed the privilege of speaking nationally on several topics in Pediatric Hospital Medicine including integration with primary care providers, academic Hospital Medicine programs and maximizing return on investment in Hospital Medicine. Dr. Pate’s most recent text publication is the chapter, “Pediatric Hospital Staffing”, in the textbook, Pediatric Hospital Medicine: Textbook of Inpatient Management. |
