Lyric is a talker. She loves to tell stories about her baby doll, Holly. But at just three and a half years old, Lyric is already quite a story, herself. On the day she was born, at just 26 weeks’ gestation, she weighed only one pound and 12 ounces. Her mom, Amanda, had been on bed rest for 5 days trying to hold off going into labor as long as possible. But Lyric was ready to start telling her story.

On a Sunday, little Lyric was born into the great big world.

The staff at St.Vincent Women’s Hospital Newborn Intensive Care Unit gave Lyric plenty of attention and the highest level of care. She needed the help of a ventilator, several blood transfusions, and lots of love - but in three months, she was ready to go home with her family.

Today, Amanda still appreciates the care her daughter received. She even keeps in touch with one of the nurses who cared for Lyric during her first weeks of life. “I still send her pictures of the kids,” laughs Amanda.

As Lyric grew and her needs changed, she continued to receive care from the St.Vincent family. She needed occupational and physical therapy through St.Vincent Children’s Hospital. And now, she’s a happy little girl who knows her colors and shapes – and she’s also a tiny success story with a very happy ending.
