St. Vincent Anderson Regional has a team approach to surgical intervention and recovery that includes nursing, rehabilitation, dietary, education, case management and surgery.
Joint replacement surgery is conducted at the surgical unit. Operating rooms have state-of-the art equipment designed for total joint replacement. Our unique post-operative unit is dedicated for joint replacement patients, including knee replacement and hip replacement.
Joint Effort is a comprehensive educational program available to all patients. The program includes pre-surgery classes for knee or hip replacement and prepares patients for recovery before they even have surgery. This program is scheduled by the surgeon in advance of the patient’s surgery.
Patients and their families receive information about what to expect before, during and after joint replacement. Topics include:
Each patient receives a pre-op screening prior to surgery to ensure any potential health complications are in control. Controlling health complications helps reduce the risk of infection.
Pain control is emphasized. The anesthesia used during surgery blocks the pain for 24 hours or longer. By controlling pain from the incision, the patient may begin moving the joint within hours of surgery.
Following surgery, patients are cared for by nurses and therapists specially trained in the care of joint replacement patients. Rehabilitation therapists begin helping the patients walk within a few hours following surgery. This helps improve mobility and positive outcomes for the patient. Only the highest quality prostheses are used.
Our surgical nurses and operating room technicians are specially trained in hip and knee replacement surgery. Trained orthopedic surgeons provide the joint replacement surgery:
