The Birthing Center at St.Vincent Anderson brings together a team of maternal specialists
who share the goal of enhancing local services provided to women before,
during and after their pregnancy.
The infant mortality rate for infants born at poverty level is 13.5 per 1000 births compared to 8.3 per 1000 births for infants born to mothers with family incomes above poverty level. As a response to these astounding statistics, the Birthing Center provides a number of free classes to expectant parents and their families.
The Birthing Center reaches out to any expectant mothers with limited family income. Courses included prenatal care, cesarean section births, Lamaze childbirth, and classes for grandparents and siblings. Personnel also assist expectant mothers to access the health care system, public assistance programs and other community resources.
