St. Vincent Fishers is St. Vincent's newest hospital in central Indiana. Established in 2013, this facility focuses on family health, monogram maternity services, acute inpatient care, emergency services, imaging services and pediatric specialty care in conjunction with the onsite Peyton Manning Children’s Outpatient Center. The emergency department provides a direct connection to the resources of the Indiana Heart Attack Network and St. Vincent Heart Center.

St. Vincent Fishers includes an ambulatory surgery center, all-digital imaging center, rehabilitation services, laboratory, and a medical office building with primary care, OB/GYN and pediatric care and a Saturday morning pediatric walk-in clinic, a weekday morning sports injury walk-in clinic, hematology/oncology infusion center, pediatric and adult sleep disorders center. The three-story hospital includes 30 medical/surgical beds, 10 labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum beds and 10 observation beds with a full spectrum of comfort features for the patient and family.

    St. Vincent Fishers is Indiana's first hospital to achieve LEED for Healthcare (LEED HC) certification and the first LEED designation for St. Vincent Health.

    Indiana Top Workplace Award

    St. Vincent Fishers, part of the Ascension Indiana Ministry Market, has been named among Indiana's Top Workplaces by The Indianapolis Star. St. Vincent Fishers is the only Hamilton County hospital to receive the honor. “What makes this award so important is that employees were interviewed about their own workplaces,” said St. Vincent Fishers Administrator Gary Fammartino. "This raises the survey’s objectivity and provides an honest assessment of the best places to work. Thanks to those who participated in the survey. Their assessment of our health ministry reinforces our reputation as an outstanding place to work both in Hamilton County and central Indiana.” 

    The Indianapolis Star collaborated with Philadelphia-based Workplace Dynamics, an employee survey firm, which invited more than 1,200 central Indiana employers to participate and surveyed more than 140 of them. Questionnaires were sent to more than 43,000 employees of these companies, with more than 22,000 responding. Employees taking the survey are given 23 statements to evaluate, including leadership, staff development, work/life balance, compensation and benefits, and how employees are appreciated on the job. Questions on employee engagement are also included.

    Center For Hope

    St. Vincent Fishers is a satellite office for St. Vincent Center of Hope. A Sexual Assault Nurse Educator (on-call 24/7) provides private treatment, advocacy, legal services coordination and evidence collection and preservation for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. The Center of Hope coordinator works closely with law enforcement, the judicial system, as well as, mental health and social service agencies to help victims access the services they need and to provide expert testimony that assists in securing convictions.

      St. Vincent outpatient services provide safe, convenient, and comprehensive care for patients without the need for hospitalization. Care is provided by specialized physicians and nurses, with the dedication and attention to detail you expect from St. Vincent.

      St. Vincent Fishers offers a full-service laboratory and pharmacy, sleep disorders testing and treatment, medication management services, and same-day outpatient surgeries.

      There’s little question that the duration and quality of our sleep can have a tremendous effect on our physical and mental wellbeing and our ability to cope with the challenges of the day. Good sleep is restorative. The hours you spend in restful sleep give your body the time it needs to regenerate. Specific hormones, released while sleeping, repair the body and ensure proper growth in children. Good and restful sleep is also a factor in staying healthy, helping the body fight infection and recovering more quickly if you do become ill.

      Left untreated, sleep problems can contribute to significant health problems, such as stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, clinical depression, diabetes and other serious conditions. Sleep deprivation has also been linked to some behavioral concerns in children.

      Sleep Disorders Center

      We offer sleep testing for all types of sleep disorders in adults and children ages 6 and older. Our Sleep Disorders Center provides outpatient, overnight testing in a hotel-like environment, with a four-bed sleep center. Our facilities include Select Comfort Sleep Number beds in each room, along with state-of-the-art testing equipment.

      St. Vincent Sleep Disorders Centers are accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. We specialize in providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment for people suffering from sleep disorders. Our team of physicians is board certified in sleep medicine and has extensive clinical and research experience in sleep disorders.

      Different options exist for treating sleep disorders. Our team of sleep specialists will provide you with a comprehensive diagnosis and follow up to determine the best treatment for you.

      Physician Consultations

      Our Board-Certified Sleep Specialists are available to evaluate and treat all types of sleep disorders. An office visit can be scheduled to determine if a sleep study is needed or to discuss treatment options after the study is completed. Our physicians also provide CPAP follow-ups and ongoing support.

      Sleep Studies

      We provide testing for all sleep disorders with state-of-the-art equipment and experienced, credentialed clinical staff. We provide a hotel-like environment with convenient locations to better serve our patients.

      CPAP Supplies

      St. John’s Medical Supplies are on-site to provide education and equipment for all your CPAP needs. Respiratory Therapists are always available to assist with mask problems or other machine issues. Appointments are appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome.

      Common sleep disturbances treated by our sleep specialists include:

      • Sleep Apnea

      • Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD)

      Left untreated, sleep problems can contribute to significant health problems such as high blood pressure, irregular heart rhythms or heart disease, stroke, heart attack, diabetes, clinical depression, and other serious conditions.

      A sleep study requires an overnight stay in our hotel-like environment. You will have a private bathroom, television, and Select Comfort Sleep Number bed. Several sensors will be placed on your head and face to monitor your sleeping patterns throughout the night. A board-certified sleep physician will then interpret the data and provide treatment recommendations and follow-up care if indicated. A sleep study does require an order from a physician.

      Mid America Clinical Laboratories

      Mid America Clinical Laboratories is our full-service laboratory and pharmacy located on site. We provide laboratory services for:

      • Patients seen at the emergency department and can perform blood draws
      • Other services for patients requiring lab services ordered by any licensed practitioner

      Our highly trained staff focuses on providing a high quality service to all our patients. Lab results will be sent to your physician in a timely manner, regardless of his or her office location.

      Anticoagulation Services 

      If you depend on blood thinning medication to prevent blood clots, regular monitoring is vital in preventing strokes and heart attacks. The Medication Management Clinic is here to provide you with everything you need to successfully manage your medication levels.

      Your first appointment will take about 45 minutes - and most subsequent appointments are scheduled for 15 minutes. We use a simple finger-stick blood sample to determine how well your medication is preventing blood clots. A healthcare provider will discuss any necessary medication adjustments, and provide you with easy-to-understand instructions on how to use your medication safely and effectively.

      The Medication Management Clinic is led by pharmacists and registered nurses who provide expert clinical and educational services in a timely and effective manner. For patients who cannot take oral medication, we provide the proper education so patients can self-inject their medicine at home.

      We also provide an in-home medication management option for qualified patients taking Coumadin, Warfarin, Jantoven and other anticoagulant medication. This allows patients the convenience and freedom to self-test at home. Meanwhile, the Medication Mangement Clinic manages their dosing in real-time while monitoring and providing education related to their medication needs.

      Medication Management Services at St. Vincent Fishers includes an Anticoagulation Clinic for children. As a partner of Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent, we understand the unique emotional and physical needs of young patients.

      Vaccinations 

      Because people of any age with chronic medical conditions are at a higher risk for flu and pneumonia related complications, it is important they get the proper vaccinations at the right time. Medication Management Services at St. Vincent Fishers provides patients on blood-thinning medication with flu and pneumonia vaccinations, as well as pharmaceutical counseling. By providing vaccinations during patients' anticoagulation follow-up appointments, we keep them healthy while saving them both time and travel.

      Tobacco Management Services 

      Smoking and tobacco use is a major health risk. It's also one of the toughest habits to break. Our Tobacco Management Services will give you the support you need to finally quit for good.

      Our team understands the science and psychology behind using tobacco. Through a combination of counseling and medication, we'll provide a pathway toward quitting that's right for you. It all starts with enrollment in our free, 8-week tobacco cessation program led by certified counselors trained at the Mayo Clinic. This clinically proven two-month course is designed to help patients quit smoking safely-and permanently.

      We also provide a free test to determine your risk for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) - a disease that makes it hard for you to exhale air from your lungs, and is the fourth most common cause of death in the United States. One of our clinicians will provide you the results to share with your primary care physician for any necessary follow-up.

      Patient & Visitor Information

         

        The following sections will help you prepare for your hospital visit. You may be coming in for a procedure that will have you spending one or more nights, or you may be coming in for an outpatient (same-day) test or procedure. Either way, these helpful tips will help make your visit more comfortable.

        Things to Discuss With Your Doctor

        • Before you arrive, talk to your doctor about what you may or may not eat before coming to the hospital.
        • Also, discuss which medications you should or should not take before your test or procedure.
        • Before your procedure, you will be asked to sign a form indicating that you have followed your physician’s instructions. If you are the legal guardian for a minor child, you will be asked to sign the form for a patient under the age of 18.

        Things to Bring With You

        • Insurance card
        • Copy of your advance directives
        • List of any medicines you’re taking, and their doses; this includes over-the-counter medications or herbal supplements
        • List of any allergies you have
        • List of phone numbers of friends and family
        • Notes or paperwork you received from your physician
        • Photo identification, such as a drivers license
        • Toiletries, including toothbrush and toothpaste, along with soap, lotion, or shampoo you prefer. (If you wear contact lenses, you may be asked to wear glasses while in the hospital.)
        • Bathroom and slippers with rubber soles
        • Clean underwear
        • Pillow marked with your name
        • Pen and paper for questions you might have or instructions you might receive
        • A small amount of cash
        • Paperback book, deck of cards, puzzles

        Things to Leave at Home

        • Watch and jewelry
        • Cell phone or pager
        • Large amounts of cash or credit cards
        • Tobacco products and alcohol

        Optional

        • Some patients like to bring their own music on a CD, audio cassette or MP3 player and headphones. This is your choice. St. Vincent is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to your music player during your hospital visit.

        Your Care Team

        St. Vincent personnel wear ID badges that are white with black lettering and include the St. Vincent doves symbol, a photo of the employee, and the person's title and/or department. All of our associates have one goal in mind: to care for you, our patient, to bring about your recovery as thoroughly and as quickly as possible.

        Our associates are highly trained and directed by the philosophy of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, which calls upon them to protect and promote the dignity and rights of each person as they participate in the healing ministry of Christ.

        Physicians

        Our physicians are members of the St. Vincent medical staff. Physicians consult with the nursing staff and possibly other medical personnel and are ultimately responsible for your medical care. If your doctor is in private practice, his/her services provided to you while in the hospital will be billed separately.

        Nurses

        Our St. Vincent nursing staff are at the center of your health care team and are committed to providing you with exceptional nursing care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Your nurses carry out your physician's orders for medical treatment and respond to your needs.

        Use the nurse call system in your room to contact the nurses' station. Please feel free to ask your nurse if you have questions about your care at St. Vincent. A representative from hospital administration is also available upon request 24 hours a day by calling the hospital operator (0) from the phone in your room.

        Residents/Interns/Students

        St. Vincent plays an important role in educating physicians and specialists. As a teaching medical center, care may be given to you by resident chaplains, physicians, and medical or nursing students during your stay. St. Vincent provides advanced experience for graduate physicians who are pursuing specialty training.

        Professionals in training are called residents and are always under supervision. A doctor may also be called an “intern” or “house physician.” Residents may participate in your care under the supervision of your own physician, who is the “attending physician.” The availability and thoughtful contributions of house physicians are considered a vital part of high-quality patient care.

        Technologists and Other Experts

        Along with nurses and physicians, your medical care rests in the hands of numerous health care specialists. These include technologists in radiology and other departments, medical technologists in the laboratory, physical and occupational therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, chaplains, social workers, and many others who are available upon your request.

        Support Personnel

        Numerous associates who are vital to the operation of St. Vincent Fishers, provide support to the doctors and nurses. These include administrators, unit managers, clerical workers, food and nutrition services personnel, housekeepers, maintenance workers, security officers, and others. Together, they support your caregivers and help make your stay at St. Vincent as pleasant as possible.

        Volunteers

        Over 1,000 volunteers regularly give their time at St. Vincent facilities, providing many services to enhance patient comfort. Volunteers deliver mail and flowers, work in the gift shop, provide assistance to patients and their families, and perform many other duties in nearly every hospital department. These volunteers in red shirts or jackets give an important gift to St. Vincent patients and visitors—their compassion, time, and service.

        Our case management social workers are here to help you or your loved ones find the services that may be needed after leaving the hospital. They will listen to your concerns and help create a plan to meet immediate and long-term needs.

        They can help with referrals to such services as:

        • Rehabilitation or extended care facilities
        • Assisted living
        • Financial assistance programs
        • Other available resources

        Whether you are currently healthy or facing a health challenge, it is important to consider what your wishes would be if you were unable to give direction to your medical caregivers because of unforeseen circumstances.

        Make Sure Your Wishes Are Known

        Regardless of the reason for your upcoming hospital stay, now is a good time to consider documenting your wishes so that family members will be confident making decisions on your behalf should it ever become necessary. Thinking about your preferences and discussing them with family and friends is important.

        What is an Advance Directive?

        Documents called advance directives will make your wishes known to your physician. These documents state your choices for health care or appoint someone to make those choices for you if you are unable to do so.

        If you already have advance directives, please bring a copy with you to the hospital at the time of your admission.

        The Patient Self-Determination Act went into effect on Dec. 1, 1991. This act requires hospitals, nursing facilities and other health care organizations to inform patients about advance directives by giving them written information at the time they are admitted.

        If the patient has executed such a document, the signed document will then become a part of the patient's medical file for that admission only.

        For years, fewer than 10 percent of all Americans had executed an advance directive. However, with the new law, both the young and old are encouraged to put their health care wishes in writing while they are still healthy and able to make these decisions.

        Types of Advance Directives

        Three types of advance directives can be prepared at St. Vincent Fishers Hospital. Call Pastoral Care at 317-338-2238 for assistance.

        • Appointment of a health care representative, who makes medical treatment decisions for you when you are no longer able. This representative acts under the conditions spelled out in writing by you, and the document must be witnessed by another adult.
        • A living will declaration tells physicians how much treatment you want to have should your condition be terminal and you are unable to communicate your wishes. With an emphasis on limiting treatment, the living will must be in writing, and there must be two adult witnesses.
        • A life-prolonging procedures declaration tells health care providers that you want everything possible to be done to prolong your life, regardless of your terminal condition. It also must be in writing, and there must be two adult witnesses.

        A fourth type of advance directive is also an option but cannot be prepared at St. Vincent. Many people consult an attorney for the preparation of this document:

        • A durable power of attorney is another option allowed under Indiana law. This document identifies the person you wish to make health care decisions for you. Unlike the health care representative, who may only make health care decisions, the person to whom you have given power of attorney may also make personal and financial decisions for you. The decision-making power of this individual must be in writing and witnessed by a notary public.
        • If you have questions or concerns regarding advance directives, we encourage you to talk with your physician and loved ones. Even if you have been admitted to St. Vincent previously, we will need a current copy of your advance directive. Situations and wishes change so the hospital cannot assume that advance directives are valid from one admission to another.

        For the safety and security of our patients and associates, our hospital doors are locked after 10 p.m. and re-opened at 6 a.m. If you would like to visit a loved one after hours, please use the phone located outside of the main entrance. Someone will escort you to the patient's room.

        Visiting hours vary. We understand the importance of visitors to the healing process of our patients. If visiting hours are limited in certain units they will be posted. Visitors should not come to the hospital if they are ill. They could spread their illness to other patients. Patients who have a disease spread by skin-to-skin contact may have their visits restricted. Please check with your nurse. Our emergency room is open 24 hours.
