What can I wear during the recovery period following my breast surgery?
The Women’s Health Boutique offers soft cotton undergarments which provide drain management if needed. These garments contain no metal hooks or elastic bands, and the fiber-filled pockets offer you a more natural look.
What is a breast form?
A breast form is a breast prosthesis worn inside a bra to closely simulate the natural contours of your own breast. Forms are made from silicone, foam or fiberfill.
Why do I need to be custom-fitted for a breast form? There are hundreds of shapes and sizes of breast forms available. Every woman, every surgery and every breast is different. Therefore, the fitting is highly individualized. Our Certified Mastectomy Fitters are specially trained to help you find just the right form.
What do I wear when I swim?
Mastectomy swimsuits have pockets to hold the breast forms. Foam and silicone swim forms are designed to be worn in the hot tub, pool or ocean.
After breast surgery am I at risk for lymphedema?
You may be at risk if lymph node dissection or radiation is involved. It is important that you talk with your physician about lymphedema prevention, detection and treatment.

What can alleviate the pain in my lower back?
A properly fitted maternity support belt, or lumbosacral support may help relieve abdominal pressure, pelvic pressure and low back pain.
Are swollen ankles and achy legs during pregnancy something I just have to endure?
No, but this is very common due to the increased pressure on your veins from weight, greater blood flow to and from the womb and hormone changes. Light or moderate pressure maternity hose may help with leg fatigue. For severe varicose veins or persistent swelling, your physician may prescribe a higher compression stocking.
Is there a difference between maternity and nursing bras?
Maternity bras should be fitted during the fourth or fifth month of pregnancy, being designed to expand with the breast and rib cage. The cup size of your nursing bra will be at least 1 – 1 1/2 sizes larger than your maternity bra and should provide more support.

Wash – Fill the sink with cool water, add shampoo then agitate with hand to create soapy water. Dip wig in and out three or four times. Wash your wig at least every other week; weekly when wig styling sprays are used.
Rinse – Hold your wig under the faucet and let water run through the mesh base. Rinsing in this direction will prevent the hair from tangling inside the mesh base.
Dry – Roll the wig in a towel and blot dry. Remove and shake gently. Spray with setting lotion, turn inside out and allow to dry on a wig stand. When completely dry on wig stand, arrange curl pattern with your fingers.
Condition – You may condition your wig every other time you shampoo, and use only a conditioner specially formulated for wigs. First wash and rinse your wig. Place conditioner in cool water and agitate with your hand. Dip wig in and out three or four times. Then rinse again.
Avoid direct heat or steam from stove, oven or fire. Consider wearing a turban while cooking to avoid singeing the wig.
When not wearing your wig, place it on a wire stand so the shape will stay intact. The wire stand also allows the wig to air out.
